Music Video Feedback

Now that we are coming close to the end of the creation of our video we wanted to get some feedback from individuals who fit our target audience criteria. This means before we submit our final video we can see what our audience think so far and make changes.

This is the questionnaire they we created to gather all the information about our feedback that we could. we also need to make sure that we were asking the right sort of questions to make sure our feedback would be useful and honest so we can make effective changes to our video.

Here are our results:

This pie chart shows that the majority of our audiences feels like the video would interest them as we only gave this questionnaire to people in our target audience. The majority also think that we used a wide shots and angles throughout our video to make it entertaining, we used shots such as long shots, two person shots, midshots and close ups. However some people do not agree this means that we could add more variety of shots and angles.

The majority of people believed that the pace of cuts was appropriate for our song. We have used 127 cuts throughout the video we made sure that we used a lot of cuts because this is one main conventions of music videos that we studied. However some people did not agree this means that we could be more accurate with the pace of our shots.

The majority of people liked the effects that we used in our video and found them appropriate and interesting and added to the video. However some people did not agree with this and did not like the effects.

Half of the people that we asked said that they would change the quality of the video I would agree with this however there was not much we could do about the quality as we were on a low budget. others said we could improve the lip syncing.

The majority of people said that they think that our video contained a wide range of props and costume changes. In our video we included props such as balloons and the letter. We had also noticed this when other people watched our video they liked the use of our props. we also tried to get different costume changes however I do believe we could have had more.

Majority of people agree that the artificial lighting that we created we very fun and effective and suit of genre and meets our target audience. however we could of made it a bit lighter so the quality of the video would have been better.

There was a equal spread of what people liked most about the video some really enjoyed the colourful lighting others the range of shots and amount of cuts we included. the effects we used in the editing process, others lie the dancing acting and miming and final some liked the costumes and use of props.

Over half of the people we questioned said that they think that the target audience should be 13 to 24 which is also what we think. others think the target audience should be between 12-17 this includes some of our ranges as well and are very similar.

Most people really liked the acting and dancing and said it looks really professional however they said that we could improve the timing of the lip syncing so this is something that we are going to improve on.

Ancillary Task

most people agreed that our ancillary products looked really effective and are appropriate for our target audience. however some say some parts do not stand out for example the blue on the album cover is not bright enough.

most people agreed that throughout our digi pack and music video there is obvious signs of synergy and others would agree that they saw some signs of synergy but it was not obvious I do agree but we did not want it to be too obvious as we just wanted it to subtle.

there was a spread of views about what stands out most about our ancillary product however a lot of people said that they like the images that we have used throughout our ancillary products. others said that they really liked the colours that we have used and also the style of font is very interesting and effective.

When asked about the quality of the images that we have used on our digi pack most people would agree that the images are very good quality however some disagreed due to the way they were cut but as I have explained before this was very difficult and we did the best we could and I still think it looks very good and professional.

Music Video Editing Process

Throughout the editing the editing process we found many effects that we had never used before and we also developed on the ones that we had used in our AS preliminary task and Thriller opening. since then I do feel like my skills using iMovie have developed a lot and I now have a better understanding of the most effective shots and cuts to use and the most effective times to use them. I have also learned about the conventions of a music video and typical effects, cuts and transitions which are used.

One of the many effects we used was layering one piece of footage on top of another. this created a interesting effect for example we could have person singing as a close up and then another clip of the whole group dancing with the flashing artificial lights. Or for example in the clip in this image it is the group dancing overlapped by one person dancing. It can also over lap more then more clip and continue on the next as it shows in this image.

This few pictures show how were able to change the speed of different clips we could slow the down or speed them up we could change how much we slowed something down or speeded something up by different percentages. This gave a different perspective on a clip and could dramatically change the clip all together for example when looking at the bottom right image this is at the start of the video and it was a 20 second clip but we speed it up 20x and it made it really quick and then we over lapped it on the beginning clip and it gave a fast pace clip which was perfect for the beginning.

The icon on this cli how that we have been reversed. This is a clip of part of the dance routine. We had a lot of clips of the dance routine and we found that is was getting quite repetitive. So we decided to reverse the clip to see what it would look like an a=it added another element to it so it no longer just looked like any other the other dance clip we used it made it look like a different dance which makes that section more interesting.

These two images show how we were able to alter the colours of the clips by using a feature on iMovie. Using this tool meant that we were able to alter the colour to make it brighter or change the skin tones of some of the group so they didn't looked so washed out in the shot we could also make the backgrounds darker or brighter depending or what we wanted in that particular clip I believe using this tool was very vital and mad a massive different to our shots and they way we used the tool defiantly had a massive impact on our video.

These pictures show how we were able to over lap clips and we were able to use two different clips and put them side by side. To put two images together we used the side by side tool. However in our case we wanted to use the same clip side by side so we just inserted the same clip twice we also wanted both of her hands facing inwards so we flipped on of the clips. One problem we faced when used this tool was we had changed the colours of one of the clips so we needed to try and get the other clip the exact same colour and this took some time as we needed to make sure it was perfect. We also used the cutaway tool as shown on the image in the top right this meant we could layer clips and have them fade in and out over the top of each other we used this tool several times throughout our music video as we found it very effective however when using this tool we had to also alter the opacity for example if we used a close up of a group member over a dancing clip we needed to make sure the dancing clip opacity was low otherwise it was difficult to see the close up which was more important.
This is the list of different effects that we had on iMovie we used quite a few of these such as flipped, hard light, day into night, glow and heat wave we found that these were the most effective and most appropriate for our genre of music video. We found that some of these effects look different depending on what clip we used them on so they weren't appropriate all the time. As you can see in the image above we have used day into night this made the back ground darker which let the dancing layer show more but still kept the individual in the mid shot visible and the focus of the shot. We also used the effective Glow a lot as this made the setting and the individual lighter and made it stand out a lot more as sometimes the artificial lighting was too dark. We used the Hard Light effect mainly on the dancing with the using of the flashing lights as it made the lights very powerful and stand out a lot.

For each clip that we used we muted them as we did not have any dialogue and we imported a track that would play along with the clips.

When using some of our clips we wanted to crop some of them to get rid of the background as sometimes as we only had a low budget we couldn't get a professional space so we need it to look professional by cropping out the backgrounds we also used it to make the image look closer then it was. Another time we used it was in a dancing shot which was of the whole group we changed it into a three person shot by cropping a few other people out this made the shot look completely different. We used two different types of cropping setting one called crop to fit which was good if it was a shot that didn't move around to much and the other one was Ken burns which showed where the clip started and finished which you could use to make sure you didn't crop any of the main picture out.

This picture shows that we split a clip which meant that we could put clips in-between the clip but then it would carry on from where it left off this was useful to make quick cute and to help the video flow.

This final image how's the amount of different sizes clips that we used some were fast to fit with the fast pace beat of the song and some others were longer for example ones that over lapped several clips and ones that were close ups of individuals singing. the amount of different size clips makes the video more interesting to watch.

Overall I believe that the editing process was very successful me and Georgina worked very well as a team and we were able to negotiate and listen to others different ideas and were very accepting of each other. I have also learnt alto more about how to edit a music video and learnt about more tools to make the process more effective.

Final Digi Pack and magazine advert for album and tour

This is the final edits of our digi pack. Throughout the digi we used a colour theme red white and blue to fit with the American theme that we wanted to associate with our group throughout the digi pack and the music video. When creating our digi pack we tried to follow our plane as close as we could however we had to change a few because when we found some things in our plans did not work and I will explain what we change for each one further on.

Album Cover

As I explained earlier we used the main colours as red whit and blue and then we used black this meant that the other colours would still stand out. When doing our plan we know that we wanted our group to be holding the letters of the name of the album so we managed to take a picture of this and we really liked it as the front of our CD cover. I think is makes it flow and means that we could have the image of the group bigger as we didn't need to leave space for the album title. However if I was to this again I think I would change the costumes that the group is wearing to a brighter colour as I feel lie this would help the letters stand out more. We got the inspiration of the holding the letters from the Saturdays single cover. We asked for feedback halfway through the process and some feedback that we got was that the colour composition for the album wasn't the same as the tour poster however we only wanted to used the same colours we did not want the same colour composition throughout our digi pack. I lie the blue background as I think it makes it look fresh and the sky blue makes the red title and the black and white text stand out. However if I was to do the background again I would try and add some texture or different shadows to it so it wasn't just one block colour. We found it difficult to edit the picture and it was hard to cut out do the background of the original images as there was many shadows from the artificial lighting which we used we taking the photo. If I was to do it again when taking the photo I would make sure there was as little of shadows as possible. We added something that wasn't in the original draft and that is the signatures of each of our group members we did this as it is a way to make it more personal for our target audience and as it is a new up and coming group it is a way for fans and potential audience to learn more about the group.

Back of album

This is the back of the album cover. Originally we was not going to have an image on the back of our album as in our plan however through the process we decided to use the image that we have used on the tour poster however we have edited it so it creates a silhouette effect. Georgina and I really liked this effect for the back as it is very simple we got inspiration for Beyonce's  back cover. To create the silhouette effect we used different tools on Photoshop we included a barcode, record label logo which we created ourselves and finally fine print as this is what is found on most professional back album covers. When inserting the song names we wanted it going through the middle in the original plan we had red lines going underneath each song name however when we used these on the real back album cover we did not like the loo of them and it was also difficult to get the density that we wanted. We made the side of the back album cover red this is the part that would fold over we used red as we had not used the colour yet on the back so to keep with the colour theme we thought it was appropriate to use red. We used white for the name of the album which stands out however we used blue for the group name however the blue does not stand out as much as the white so if I was to do this again I was use a more vibrant blue.

This is the inside of our digi pack. When the digi pack is open this will be on the left. This is the lyric book cover. This is why we have decided to add lyrics onto the picture. We also used a picture with the balloons as this links with some of the scenes in the music video. The picture is bright and links to the next picture where the CD is placed which show continuity. The outfits that they are wearing are the setting there are in are also in the music video which shows clear links.

This is alos for the inside of our digi pack. However this would be on the right side and the CD would be placed over this as indicated by the markers over he picture this would also be used to help get the CD in and out. We decided to use this picture because it is fun and enjoyable to look at and shows a contrast to the outside of the CD cover where they are a bit more serious. This helps to show different sides of the group and sets the feel for the CD.

Tour poster

As I said before we did not want to use the same composition of colours throughout the digi pack this is why we have decided to use red as the background for the tour poster instead of blue lie we used for the CD cover. I like this red as it is vibrant and is eye catching which is important for a tour poster to be especially when it is an up and coming group. We used the blue for the group name and we used a glitter overlay effect to added more texture and detail to it which makes it more eye catching and appealing. We decided to use white for the tour name and also for the special guests I think the white stands out against the red but we made them smaller so that the group name would stand out more. When adding in the tour dates we decided to use black how ever we changed the way we set out the tour dates form our originally plan as we were originally just going tom have three of our main dates however we decided to add more of them as we found this is what up and coming artists do to promote more of the venues that they are performing at. However we still made the main venue that they would be performing out in bold this means that it would stand out the most. We used black text for the fine print at the bottom of the poster this is information about where to buy tickets and also social media addresses we kept this is the same colour font as the tour dates as we thought that it was related and it is the main thing that will attract the audience. For the image we used a hole group shot of them wearing red white and blue in their own individual ways. This meant that it kept in with the American theme and making them each look individual adds to the appeal of the group to the audience. We have also included a text which is advertising where they can buy the album from which has created synergy we have made it white so it stays with the colour theme and it also stands out. We decided not to make this too big as our focus was on the tour advertisement. Overall I think that the tour poster is very successful as it gives all the vital information, it is eye catching, it is promoting the group and keeps in with convention of a tour poster and stays in the American theme of the music video and the rest of the digi pack.

Digi Pack- Back album cover

When Workings on the Back of our album cover there was a few more things that we needed to include for example the barcode and the record label logo. This is a convention of a digi pack and appears on the majority digi pack. we also included some fine print about who was involved in the album and about the record label just like a draft suggests. However when creating our draft at first we did not want to include a image on the back of our album cover hover when working on it we found an effect on Photoshop that we really like and we thought would be effective on the back of our album cover. we used the same image as the one on our tour poster and used an effective to change it into a silhouette. We also used our font that we found in our font research and created how we wanted to space out our song titles. however when we put it on to the back album cover we wanted to make the text of the songs white to fit in with the red white and blue theme of our digi pack.

Digi Pack- album cover progress

This is the Photo that we wanted to use for the front of our album. We chose this picture because we liked how the picture included the name of what we wanted to call our album. we also like how the were all wearing similar black clothing which we felt would stand out on the album cover.

We then used Photoshop to remove the background from the picture which means that it would be transferred onto a background of our choice. We also liked there makeup in this photo as it stands out.

This is when we put it onto a new background we experimented with the colour of the background. We also used our font research to see which font looked the  best. As part of our progress we experiment with the sizes of text and the picture.

Digi Pack- Magazine advert for a album and tour progress

This is the image that we choose for our tour poster. We really like this image due to the high quality, the angle of the image and also the lighting. We also liked this image because we liked the groups facial expressions as they are strong and look confident and that's what we are trying to portray to our target audience. We also like there clothing and we think it represents them as individuals.

We then cut that photo out using Photoshop. On Photoshop we used a magic wand tool and also background eraser tool. We did this so it could be transferred on to our tour poster.

We put the cut out image onto a red background as this is the colour background that we wanted. We then used our font research to try different fonts to see what they looked like with the image and also on a red background. When creating this we followed the draft we had made closet and we only had to change a few things such as the size of the image and some of the text.
